The Inn At Whitewell This is a well-kept secret in a gorgeous setting amid the misty moors and rolling fells of the Forest of Bowland. And as it sits on the banks of the River Hodder, the views are spectacular from almost every room. The welcome is warm. huge fires blaze in ornate iron grates and there are polished flagstones and grainy oak furniture. the restaurant splits into several bar areas, the blackboard menu offering daily specials of simply cooked local produce. Smoked fillet of trout with beetroot salad and roast breast of Goosnargh duckling with bubble and squeak, black pudding sausage and red wine jus are delicious and substantial. The puddings change every day, with deep, rich, melt-in-the-mouth treacle tart delivering on the menu's promise of "nursery-like" treats. |
